Why are some comments grayed out or transparent?

Grayed out or transparent comments indicate that the member making the comment is an active member of a community where your item is visible, but not an active member of the community in which you are viewing an item.  We do this to ensure sellers can always see all comments on an item no matter which community they are currently in.
